This is not a blog post
February 08, 2016
So a little while back, right after the Kickstarter for Gloomhaven, I resolved myself to continue writing a blog post and a Kickstarter update every week,
despite a strong demand on my time to finish working on Gloomhaven. Of course, I continue to write Kickstarter updates because I have an extremely strong obligation to my backers to do so. They gave me a lot of money and so I need to keep them informed about what is going on.
I've done less well writing a blog post every week. It hasn't been terrible, but I've missed the last couple weeks and it's starting to weigh on me.
Really, there are two problems here:
-
The first problem is just time. Gloomhaven is consuming my life, more and more very day. Even after my wife comes home, I continue to work. She's not exactly happy about that. I've had to cancel going to my weekly Wednesday game night a few times, and I cannot tell you how sad it makes me to not play board games (other than Gloomhaven) for over a week. Sure it's only a couple hours to write a blog post, but when it comes down to it, if I'm in the middle of wading through the hundreds and hundreds of character ability cards, it's hard to justify interrupting that work flow to write a post, especially when...
-
I have very little to write about. Like the first problem, this is temporary and stems from the same issue - Gloomhaven is all-consuming and omni-present. This is primarily a blog about board game development - my thoughts on game mechanics and whatnot - and it is fueled by playing new games and developing new games. Unfortunately, very little of that is happening currently. Like I said, I've had to cut back on playing new games, and however much I want to develop something not Gloomhaven-related, I just don't have the time.
I could, of course, just talk about
Gloomhaven stuff, but very little of what I am doing now is mechanics development - all of that has been done for a while. Also all interesting
Gloomhaven-related content is covered in the Kickstarter updates and also,
how many posts can I actually make about Gloomhaven? At some point I feel like I'm just rehashing old topics.
So, anyway, what I am trying to say is that
these blog posts are going to slow down for the next month or so. I could just drop of the face of the earth for two months, but if I come out and actually say it, then I'll feel less bad about it.
So this is just me
assuaging my guilt. I hope that's all right, and I will see you when I see you.
