A Complete RPG Adventure in One Box
What is Gloomhaven?

Welcome to Gloomhaven
Gloomhaven is a cooperative campaign game of tactical combat and branching narratives in a unique fantasy world. Form a party of mercenaries from a starting selection of six fully unique classes, each with their own abilities, mechanics, strengths, weaknesses, and upgrade paths. Your mercenary will choose a personal quest card, describing their motivations in this dark, magical world. When this quest is completed they will retire, unlocking a new class (there are 12 to unlock!) that is now available for anyone to play.
The story of this epic game begins when your mercenary party is approached by a red-cloaked (and red-tailed) merchant Jekserah, who offers you payment to deal with some bandits who are causing trouble for caravans of goods entering the city of Gloomhaven. What sounds innocuous enough will start you on a journey throughout not only Gloomhaven, but the surrounding world – from the Dagger Forest, to the Copperneck Mountains, to the Lingering Swamp, to the Misty Sea. The story will play out through a branching narrative, where decisions you make will impact the campaign in meaningful (and permanent) ways. Your party will earn (or lose) reputation among three unique factions vying for power in the city. Who you decide to associate yourself with will impact how the story unfolds.

The heart of the game plays out scenario-by-scenario – the game boasts 101 of them, all unique. Each scenario will feature an objective (I.E kill all the enemies, escape, protect somebody for a certain amount of rounds, etc) and a set of enemies for you to encounter, each with their own unique deck of ability cards telling you what they will do each round. Depending on what mercenary you’ve selected to play, you will start each scenario with a hand of 8 to 12 cards, each having two different, unique actions on them – one on the top half of the card and the other on the bottom. Each round, you’ll pick two cards to play, and when your turn comes around (the cards also determine the order everyone goes), you’ll play the top action of one card and the bottom action of the other. This is a system that is simple to understand, but has loads of depth as you start to look at all the options you have available to you.

As you are successful in scenarios not only will the story advance, but you’ll gain loot to buy items, you’ll level-up your characters (gaining a choice each level between two new enticing ability cards), and you’ll experience event cards both in the city and when you’re on the road. All of this leads to a deep, tactical, immersive experience that is like no other.
All of this led to Gloomhaven being one of only eight tabletop games ever to be rated as #1 of all time(from a pool of over 170,000!) on the website BoardGameGeek.com.
Starting Mercenaries
Bruiser
A strong melee fighter with high health. It’s pretty simple – you move well and hit hard! You have many area-of-effect abilities for taking out swarms of enemies when they clump up, and you can push and pull your enemies around the battlefield with brute force. Trample and Skewer your enemies before delivering them a Sweeping Blow.
Cragheart
This chaotic force of nature is the perfect class selection for anybody who wants to manipulate the battlefield. The Cragheart can create and destroy obstacles, allowing you to clear a path for your party or block the enemies from getting to you. As you throw a Massive Boulder or pulverize enemies with your Crushing Grasp you’ll find that you have a strong array of melee attacks, ranged attacks, and healing abilities. This is the class to play if you want to shake the earth with an Unstable Upheaval, causing massive damage to your enemies – and sometimes to your allies as well.
Mindthief
The smallest in stature of the starting six, the Mindthief uses psychological augments to empower its abilities, giving you a wide range of bonuses you can utilize depending on the situation. While it may seem counterintuitive for a small, low-health class to excel in melee combat, you’ll find you have many tricks at your disposal. Go invisible when you are Hidden in the Shadows, or make enemies attack each other as you exploit The Mind’s Weakness. You also have access to your Gnawing Horde of rats, who will swarm enemies with a flurry of claws and teeth.
Silent Knife
An opportunistic attacker with elite movement, this rogue often gains bonuses when attacking enemies who are isolated (adjacent to none of their allies) or flanked (adjacent to at least one of the Silent Knfie’s allies). You have very powerful cards, but with a smaller-than-average hand size you need to be careful to pick the right moments to strike and keep yourself safe from danger as you deliver Throwing Knives, a Venom Shiv, or finish a boss with a vicious Backstab.
Spellweaver
A spellcaster who specializes in fire and ice, you have many powerful area-of-effect abilities that most classes could only use once a scenario – but due to your most vital and powerful card, Reviving Ether, you can get them back and use them again. Learning to wield your fire and ice from one turn to the next is vital for success with this class, as you cast Fire Orbs and create an Icy Blast that wrecks your foes.
Tinkerer
A jack-of-all trades, you have any tool for the job. While you are the best healer and support character of the starting six, you also can pack a punch with powerful ranged area-of-effect abilities like an Ink Bomb or a Net Shooter. Not only can this class summon robot contraptions or place a variety of traps to help on the battlefield, you also get access to unique gadgets (such as an Enhancement Field) you can place on the board to aid your allies or hinder your foes. You also boast a large hand size of 12, allowing you to place powerful one-time abilities more often than other classes.
