Hello! Back in the good old days of newsletters, I would just tell you about whatever I was working on without a care in the world, but then, due to a variety of factors, I came to realize that it was probably better to keep some things under wraps until they were actually ready to be announced.
I know, it’s weird, but it’s especially true when you’re working with other companies, and they have their own schedules for when to make things public.
So anyway, all of that is to say that I finally do get to talk about something for the first time. It’s pretty exciting, and - oh my gosh - I finally get to talk about Frosthaven Digital! In case you haven’t heard the news, Frosthaven Digital is indeed a thing, and it is coming to early access on Steam very soon. It is as faithful of an adaptation of the board game as possible, and I’ve been working with Snapshot Games for over two years on this in silence, so it’s nice that I can finally talk about it.
Like, it is probably the most asked question/comment I get talking to fans at conventions. They’re like, “You should do a Frosthaven Digital! I would buy that in a heartbeat.” And I’m like, “Yeah, man, I know.”
So, look. I made this board game, right? I poured everything I had into it to make it as grand and epic as possible, which I think was warranted, given the epicness of the crowdfunding campaign that made it happen. There are some who may take issue with an element of the game here or there, but I think it’s the greatest thing I’ve ever done by a large margin. But the rub is that I don’t really have the time to fully enjoy it myself.
I’ve got a Frosthaven campaign group, but we only meet every couple months, and have only managed to get through maybe 15 scenarios in the more than three years that the game has existed. And it was the same with Gloomhaven…
But! Once Gloomhaven Digital came out, I started playing that with my friends at Brambeard Gaming, and we managed to play through the whole campaign, which was a ton of fun. So while I am happy that Frosthaven Digital will bring the game to a wider audience, funnily enough, I am hoping that wider audience includes me, and affords me the opportunity to really dig deep into the game in a way I haven’t been able to do since the development and playtesting days.
I hope you enjoy it when it comes out, and know that I’ll be enjoying it too!
Oh, and one more thing before I go! I am planning to start doing some very light streaming again on Twitch. I’ll just be playing random games (probably UFO 50) every Wednesday from noon to 1 pacific, so come say hi if you’re into that sort of thing!
