Pub Crawlers Pint-sized Preview #3

Hello all, we are back today to give you more information about the Gloomhaven Buttons & Bugs: Pub Crawlers expansion. If you missed our last preview, you can find it here!

While last time we talked about bless and curse, which function differently from other positive and negative conditions, today we’ll talk about the other conditions coming to Pub Crawlers that weren’t in the original game. Just as a recap, the original Buttons & Bugs had two positive conditions – invisible and strengthen – and five negative conditions – muddle, wound, poison, immobilize and disarm. Pub Crawlers adds two returning positive conditions and veterans of other ‘Haven games will recognize, along with two brand new negative conditions. First off, the returning:

Regenerate: Introduced in Forgotten Circles and also used in Frosthaven, a figure with Regenerate performs heal 1 at the start of their turn. If they have both regenerate and wound, the regenerate clears the wound. Regenerate is lost when the figure suffers damage.

Ward: Introduced in Frosthaven and also now seen in Gloomhaven, Ward reduces the damage a figure would suffer by half (rounded in the figure’s favor) and then is removed.

You may already have been familiar with those. But let’s talk about the new ones, shall we?

Rot

Pub Crawlers introduces Rot to the Gloomhaven universe. (The blue mushroom icon) A figure with Rot reduces all attack they perform by 1. Not only that, but Rot becomes only the second condition, along with poison, that prevents a figure’s health total from raising when performing a heal (rot is instead removed). The Fungal Monk can take advantage of this in several ways, as you can start to see above.

By the way, that little symbol related to adding a target on the top of Rapid Decay is not a condition, but instead a class-specific mechanic that will be detailed in the Fungal Monk’s class notes. More on that in a future preview!

Grounded

While there isn’t a level 1 card from our new heroes I can show you that dishes out Grounded, I can tell you what it does – a figure with grounded loses flying until the end of its next full turn. While a niche condition on the surface, you never know how Grounded may impact play in the Pub Crawlers campaign.

But of course it won’t just be the Fungal Monk and Whistlecry who can take advantage of these conditions, and enemies may utilize them as well.

Be honest, mercenaries, you have no chance against this creature straight out of your nightmares:

No? You don’t think a cute little newt is intimidating at all? OK, well you asked for it:

You might look at the Yeast Ooze stat card and say “phew”, they don’t have an effect that lets them split like the Ooze in Gloomhaven/Frosthaven.

We’ll see, won’t we? (Cue evil laugh)

OK folks, that’s it for now. We’ll be back next time with a preview of the Fungal Monk! Until then, mercenaries!
